Wood burning fireplaces are either listed as high efficiency, mid efficiency, and low efficiency. High efficiency units typically are meant to be burnt with the door closed and sealed. They have very low emissions which means that most of the fuel particulates are burnt and converted to flue gases. Mid efficiency fireplaces are designed more for the consumer that wants to enjoy viewing a larger fire and still maintain some of the efficiency features that wood burning offers. Typically, they can be burnt with the door open or closed and have a much larger firebox. Low efficiency units typically do not have a door that seals when the unit is burning and are strictly meant as an aesthetic addition to your home. While they do provide heat, most of the heat produced escapes up your chimney. This does however allow for a huge firebox and a great viewing area.
Reinhardt Quelle does fireplace remodels and custom cabinets in the San Francisco Bay area. After many years in technology, Reinhardt decided to become a full-time parent. Parenting had to share time with remodeling, however, since he and his wife had just purchased a fixer-upper. Reinhardt completely remodeled the house, knocking out walls, replacing the kitchen and bathrooms, and building a four-level deck in the backyard. But it was his remodeled fireplaces and custom cabinets really captured the attention of neighbors and friends and he quickly found himself employed full-time in the neighborhood and beyond.
The late Victorian age brought a mixture of styles. In direct contrast to the Georgian, Elizabethan and Jacobean periods, the Victorian era avoided sameness and had a richness that appealed to all. It was customary to decorate mantels with plush velvet pelmets; over-mantels had many shelves and brackets and sometimes the whole mantelpiece was backed with a mirror - plate glass became fashionable around this time. The late Victorians particularly loved Jacobean architecture, with its rich profusion of Renaissance and medieval motifs.
